Accessibility Plan
Under the Equality Act 2010, all schools must publish an Accessibility Plan that sets out how they will improve access for disabled pupils. The plan covers three areas: improving access to the curriculum, improving the physical environment of the school, and improving the way information is delivered to pupils. Below is our current plan, the actions taken, and their status.
The three strands of our plan
Physical environment
Improving how disabled pupils, parents, staff and visitors can move around the building and grounds safely and independently.
Curriculum access
Removing barriers to learning so all pupils, including those with disabilities, can access every part of the school's curriculum.
Information access
Making sure information, signs and communications are available in formats that work for pupils, parents and visitors with sensory or communication needs.
Physical environment
Designated disabled parking
CompletedDisabled parking spaces clearly marked, signed, kept free from misuse, and staff briefed on expectations.
Slow-action door closers
CompletedSlow-action closers installed on fire doors as priority and across remaining doors through the premises budget programme.
Disabled toilet access
CompletedAdaptations to ensure children with mobility or accessibility needs can use the toilets independently:
- Changing mat installed
- Stool and toilet seat adaptation
- KS1 toilets redecorated to be child-friendly
Wheelchair accessibility in classrooms
Reviewed per pupilClassroom furniture arranged to ensure clear paths for wheelchair users, with adjustable desks purchased as needed. Reviewed for each individual child requiring adjustments.
Main building decking ramp
CompletedComposite decking installed and ramp gradient reduced for safer, more accessible entry and exit.
Pre-school access ramp
CompletedWooden ramp structure with reduced gradient installed at the Pre-School to improve access for young children and pushchairs.
Accessibility at school events
CompletedImproved consideration for disabled children and parents attending school events:
- Rest points along event routes
- Seating areas to support those with reduced mobility
- Clear, direct paths with ramped access
Curriculum access
Enhanced learning apps and technology
CompletediPads increased across the school to support 1:1 access, with research and purchase of accessibility apps and programmes including audio description and dictation tools, so pupils who cannot access elements of learning in standard formats have alternative routes in.
Information access
Visual, audible and tactile signage
CompletedAs signs around the school are replaced, they are made accessible to people with restricted movement, sight or hearing — as far as reasonably expected.
Induction loop
CompletedInduction loop fitted to support communication for people with reduced hearing.
Visual orientation cues
RollingAs signs are replaced they are made both pictorial and textual, and kept consistent throughout the school to support way-finding for all visitors.
Accessible building plans
CompletedBuilding plan pack created including braille and large-print versions for visitors and staff with sight impairments.
