Our school uniform is an important part of our identity — a shared symbol that we are proud to wear the cross of St Peter Chanel. It also helps every child feel part of our community from their first day.
We know that uniform can be expensive, especially for families with more than one child at the school. This page sets out exactly what your child needs, how much it costs, where to buy it, and the support available if you need it.
Education Act 2024 — cost of school uniform
St Peter Chanel requires only 3 branded items — the polo shirt, the sweatshirt and the cardigan. This is within the Education Act 2024 limit of three branded items for primary schools. Everything else can be bought from any high-street or supermarket retailer.
What your child needs
The uniform is the same year-round. Some families prefer to wear the summer dress or shorts from Easter to October half-term, but this is optional.

PE kit
Children wear their PE kit into school on PE days — there is no need for a separate PE bag. All PE kit items are generic and can be bought from any supermarket or high-street retailer.

Total cost estimate
Buying the 3 branded items from Graduates + everything else from a supermarket brings the total down to around £50–£65. Second-hand uniform is available free of charge (see below).
Where to buy
Branded items (polo shirt, sweatshirt, cardigan, book bag) are only available from the suppliers below. All other items can be bought from Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco, M&S, Next, John Lewis, or any high-street retailer — as long as they match the description in our Uniform Policy.

Pre-loved uniform — free to any family
We hold a stock of good-quality second-hand uniform at school, donated by families whose children have grown out of them. Any family is welcome to take what they need — there is no charge and no need to ask permission.
Pre-loved uniform giveaways: the last Friday of each half-term, 3:20pm–4:00pm in the school hall. If you can't make those dates, just come to the school office any time and we'll help.
If your child has grown out of anything and it's still in good condition, we'd love to have it back for another family. Please drop it into the school office.
Support with the cost of uniform
If your family is finding uniform costs difficult, please talk to us in confidence. There is no judgement — we want every child to be able to wear the uniform without it being a worry.
Contact Mrs S Plows in the school office on 020 8302 6029 or admin@st-peterchanel.bexley.sch.uk. We can arrange complete second-hand uniform bundles, provide vouchers in some cases, and signpost to other local support.
Jewellery, hair and other rules
- Earrings are not allowed at school, except for the 12 weeks immediately after a piercing to allow the holes to heal.
- No other jewellery — please help us by checking your child before they leave home.
- Hair accessories should be in school colours (brown, gold, white or plain black).
- Long hair should be tied back.
- Nail varnish, make-up and temporary tattoos are not allowed.
- If your child wishes to wear earrings to school, parents will need to sign our earring agreement.
If you need a temporary change (for example, a medical reason your child cannot wear certain items), please put this in writing to Mr A Davies, Headteacher.
